RIP to our 13-year-old Alumni Tony who was a very good boy . π’
Tony & his sister Sammy came to us early in 2021 as 9-year-olds because their original family had a fire at their home. They were bonded (so we wouldnβt adopt them out separately) and they were adopted four months after we got them.
A year and a half later their adopter returned Sammie but wouldnβt give Tony back to us- we tried to get her to but, she refused . Sammy was adopted again but came back to us less than a year later because her owner got sick. In August of 2023 she got her forever home with an amazing couple who have adopted a number of cats from TCR and are big supporters of our rescue.
Fast forward to May 2024, Tony ends up in the Trenton Shelter. We called Sammyβs parents and asked if they wanted to adopt Tony and they said yes ! So, the siblings got to be together again after being separated for 19 months. Once they got used to each other again they were BFFs again and could often be found cuddled up with each other.
We had hoped they would have several more years together (they were born in early 2012) but, sadly that didnβt happen. Tony stopped eating last week and his parents took him to the vet. He had very severe kidney failure as well as possibly another illness. Fine one day and the next not . His parents are very experienced cat owners (theyβve had a few cats with kidney failure and can do subcu fluids) but Tonyβs case was very severe. So, they took him home for the weekend, made him comfortable and were going to do the only thing we can do when our kitties are sick and there is nothing you can do, today. Before they could, Tony had what the vet thinks was a stroke late Sunday night and he passed away at the emergency vet.
Our condolences to his parents, we were thrilled they wanted to reunite these siblings. And we are glad Tony spent the last 10 months of his life with his sister and had a wonderful family who loved him.
